If your Samsung dryer stops spinning, then you are likely to end up with damp clothes(it won’t dry)

The good thing is that there are a few easy-peasy fixes that often work for the issue..

Here they are:

Samsung dryer stops spinning – how to troubleshoot your dryer

Chances are one of the following components could be the issue:

· The dryer belt

The belt goes around the drum through the motor relay to the pulley(as the motor spins, it moves the belt which, in turn, spins the drum).

Now, this belt may break over time- it can also come loose.

To check if this is the issue, you will need to open up your dryer and try to move the drum by hand(if it spins easily, the belt could be the reason your dryer quit spinning….

You may also observe is the belt appears frayed.

Recommended repair:

If it is broken, you will need to get a replacement- and the genuine OEM Samsung Drum Belt should work fine after installation.

Speaking of installation, you can follow the step-by-step instructions in your owners manual or Watch a YouTube tutorial (just search on YouTube to see it is installed).

· Dryer Idler pulley

Also known as the tension pulley, the dryer idler pulley is responsible for maintaining appropriate belt tension.

It also prevents the belt from slipping off during spinning cycles.

Now, if this pulley is broken, the belt will loosen so it won’t turn the drum.

So also inspect the idler pulley when checking the belt -You should be able to comfortably make it spin on its shaft.

The thing is if it doesn’t spin or appears damaged, you will need to swap it out together with the belt.

That is because a faulty belt tends to ‘eat’ the idler pulley.

Here we recommend you substitute it with the Upgraded Samsung idler pulley – it’s compatible with numerous Samsung dryer models.

Don’t forget there are instructions in the package though watching a relevant YouTube video is probably going to make your work easier.

Swap it out and see if your dryer will resume spinning quietly again!

· Drum Rollers

The drum rollers keep/hold the dryer drum in place as the drum spins on the supporting wheels.

Problem is if you normally overload your dryer, especially with dripping clothes, it may eventually lead to your rollers bending or even breaking.

To be clear, the most common signs that it could be time to replace the drum rollers are when your dryer is annoyingly noisy, stops spinning mid-cycle, or won’t spin at all.

So you may want to change out the drum rollers(they’re usually 2) particularly if you note they are bent or totally disintegrated when you inspect them(with your dryer disassembled).

And we recommend the DC97-16782A Dryer Drum Roller and Axle(pack of 4) since it is important to change out the 2 simultaneously (the other two can be a backup)

Also, when replacing the drum rollers, be sure to replace the axles themselves as well as a preventive measure.

Quick Tip:

Do not grease, lube, or oil your dryer’s idler pulleys or drum rollers because doing that begins to attract, dust, hair, and lint immediately, potentially shortening the life of the parts.

Just make sure the pin/ post for a pulley/drum roller is completely dry and clean(from any debris)- a misshapen or rough post/pin for an idler pulley / drum roller needs to be replaced.

What else to check………………………………..

Check the door switch/ latch

Like all dryers, Samsung dryers are designed in such a way that they won’t spin when the door is open.

If your door latch is faulty, the door will be pushed open during tumbling.

How?

You see, during tumbling, your clothes will come in contact with your door and push it open.

This breaks the circuitry of the door switch, resulting in your dryer not spinning mid-cycle.

To check if this is the case, once your dryer stops spinning mid-cycle, check to see if the door is open even a little bit. I

If so, you will need to replace the latch. We recommend you get this genuine OEM dryer door latch by Samsung.

Check the moisture sensor

This sensor is responsible for detecting the amount of moisture in your dryer and signaling the dryer to stop when the clothes are dry.

For that reason, if your dryer stops spinning mid-cycle and stops as soon as you turn it on again, you should consider checking your moisture sensor.

Have a look at our other article on Samsung moisture sensor test– we have explained how to troubleshoot the part..

Check the motor

Do you hear a loud buzzing sound before it stops spinning when your dryer is running?

If so, you probably have an overheating or faulty motor(The motor is responsible for spinning the drum and the blower wheel).

Now, an overheating motor is an indication that either you are overloading your dryer or the motor is faulty.

Subsequently, make sure that your dryer is never overloaded.

Keep in mind that when the motor overheats, your dryer will run for some minutes – with a loud buzzing sound – and then stop spinning.

It will again kick back on after some time and again stop after some time.

So if you note that this is what your dryer is doing, you might have to replace the motor(you can go for the OEM dryer motor by Samsung).

Samsung dryer stops spinning – specific troubleshooting steps

Samsung dryer not spinning but timer counting down

There are those scenarios where your dryer won’t spin after you start a cycle or stops spinning mid-cycle but the timer still counts down.

In such situations, the likely culprit is any of the following parts:

  • Drive belt.
  •
  • Idler pulley.
  • Drum support rollers and axles.

Just follow the steps I have elaborated on above to troubleshoot them..

Samsung dryer stops spinning mid-cycle

In cases where your Samsung dryer stops spinning mid-cycle, you will want to look at the following issues as we have seen above:

  • Door switch.
  • Moisture sensor.
  • Drive belt.
  •
  • Idler pulley.
  • Drum support rollers and axles.

Again for detailed troubleshooting steps, refer to the previous steps

Samsung dryer not spinning no sound

If your dryer is not spinning and it doesn’t produce any sound, it is perhaps a problem with one of these parts:

  • Door switch.
  • Moisture sensor.
  • Motor – it could be fully damaged.

We have already discussed how to fix each component so check the earlier paragraphs.

Samsung dryer not spinning just hums

If you are having a dryer that just won’t spin but produces a humming sound, below are some things that you need to check (be sure to read about how to fix them above):

  • Dryer belt.
  • Idler pulley.
  • Drum support rollers and axles.

Samsung dryer not spinning belt not broken

A broken belt is among some of the most common causes for your dryer not spinning.

But if after inspecting it you note that the belt is not broken, the problem could be:

  • A bad door switch.
  • A dirty/defective moisture sensor.
  • A troubled motor.
  • An idler pulley that is failing/loose
  • Broken drum support rollers and axles.

Do as recommended in prior sections to repair each part.

Samsung dryer won’t spin -Final words

The above steps will help you to comfortably fix a dryer that stops or won’t spin.

Reminder: I suggest that you look for a helpful video on YouTube to help you replace any part that you’re having difficulties replacing.
