Bosch dishwasher no lights on control panel [Troubleshooting steps]
If your Bosch dishwasher’s control panel is completely non-responsive (and acts as though it’s not having power – no lights, at all and no response from the buttons when pushed), try these tricks:
Check if it is due to power supply problems
The first thing you need to verify when your Bosch dishwasher control panel has no lights is if there is a power supply problem to the unit.
In fact, this is the most common cause of the issue and the primary reason why your Bosch dishwasher will look completely dead when you try to start it.
Troubleshooting steps
Reset the circuit breaker or fuse in your home
First of all, try to reset the circuit breaker or fuse in your home -you want to turn the circuit breaker or fuse that supplies power to your dishwasher off then back on.
Here is the best way to do the reset:
- Turn the circuit breaker off -in your home’s breaker box- or simply remove the fuse (in the fuse box).
- Wait about two minutes.
- Turn the circuit breaker back on (or re-install the fuse).
Try to use the dishwasher once again and see if the issue has been resolved.
If not, proceed as follows:
Check if the power cord is loose (check the outlet too)
Your Bosch dishwasher may be trying to get power via a power cord that’s loose- it may have come loose over time- meaning the unit may not be getting electricity.
Before I tell you how to troubleshoot the appliance for this potential problem, it is worth mentioning that not all Bosch dishwashers use a power cord.
That being so, you should first check if your machine has a cord.
If it has, the outlet will typically be located in one of the adjacent cabinets.
Locate it and double-check that the power cord is actually plugged properly into the wall.
In addition, it is important to confirm that the outlet it plugs into is functioning- there will be no power if the outlet is faulty (You can plug it into a different outlet and see if it boot).
Now, if it has been plugged into a standard GFI/GFCI outlet having a reset button, you need to press Reset (on the outlet) to restore power.
Turn on power at the wall switch
If your Bosch dishwasher is managed by a wall-switch, ensure the power is indeed turned on.
Don’t forget that wall switches are not usually required in all areas so be sure to inspect around your kitchen counter for a switch that you don’t normally use (It can also be in the cabinet that is under the sink).
Bosch dishwasher no lights on control panel -additional Troubleshooting steps if your dishwasher has power but no lights
Now, if your dishwasher is still not showing signs of getting power (so there are no lights on the panel yet) and the problem does not seem to be occurring due to an electrical issue, we recommend you try the following steps:
Fix /Replace the control panel itself
The control panel could itself be actually inoperative – and this is very likely if resetting the breaker (this additionally resets the control panel) and turning on power did not make the indicator lights turn on.
However, you need to check the ribbon cable connecting the panel to the main control board for corrosion- it sometimes rusts leading to poor contact.
So try to take the control panel assembly apart and clean any corrosion you find on the cable terminals.
Also, check the cable connections- you want them to be tight to ensure good contact (even fiddling with the cable a little can help reinstate contact).
If this doesn’t help, it could be time to replace the entire control panel (This is the best bet for most Bosch dishwasher control panel problems).
So you need to find the right replacement control panel (this is compatible with most Bosch brand dishwashers) and perform the swap.
Now, the control panel should be very easy to replace and there are helpful YouTube videos you can watch if you need more help.
Could it be the main control module?
A damaged electronic control board is another likely cause especially if power is coming into your control but the appliance won’t do anything else.
But you should not be too quick to order a new control- visually inspect it first for issues like frayed wires, burnt parts, and improper/loose connections.
To add, it is fairly common to find connectors that have come loose often due to inadequate fastening.
The thing is, once you used the unit for a while, these connections will start to become loose because of the vibrations made during normal operations.
The can ultimately cut power to the control panel.
So check for all these probable problems and try to repair (replace any burnt components).
If you have not succeeded, trying a new control is your remaining option.
Again find a compatible control board and go ahead with the replacement.
Keep in mind that vendors will ask for the part number– and not your Bosch dishwasher model number (You can check current control board prices on Amazon).
Bosch dishwasher no lights on panel – recap of troubleshooting steps
If your Bosch dishwasher displays no lights on the control panel, investigate if it is having power supply issues.
Next, turn to the control panel itself- there is a chance that it could have malfunctioned.
Remember that the best solution if the panel is found defective is replacing it.
The last likely cause is a bad control board- and this needs to be replaced too.
Otherwise, you should consider having your Bosch dishwasher fixed by a professional service person.
Good luck.

Bosch dishwasher model number Shs863wd5n/13. Purchased Sept of 2021. In January of 2023 had a E15 error . Unplugged to reset it and when plugged it in had no lights on the control panel. Had a technician that said to throw it away because we had signs of mice . Being 1 1/2 years old I just couldn’t do that. My son-in-law put a new harness, main and control panel on it and it still doesn’t have lights. He replaced the float and the float switch also. Is there something that locks on this model that I’m not aware? It seems
odd that the lights worked when we unplugged and when we plugged it back in they didn’t. Any help would be appreciated.
