Maytag Bravos lid lock test – How to test lid lock on maytag bravos washer

Perform the following tests if the washing machine won’t lock (or unlock).

IMPORTANT: Before performing the following Maytag Bravos lid lock test, try to run the Lid-Lock test(under manual test mode- see your tech sheet).

Maytag Bravos lid lock test (TEST #8)- How to test lid lock on maytag bravos washer

1. Check the lid lock mechanism-for obstruction/binding and fix, as necessary.
2. Unplug the washer (or disconnect power).
3. Remove the console to gain access to main control.
4. Visually confirm that J15 connector is properly inserted –it should be inserting all the way into main control.

If the above visual check passes, jump to step 5.

And if the connector has not been inserted properly, re-connect J15 and run the Lid-Lock test(under manual test mode) once more.

Next, remove connector J-15 from main control then grab an ohmmeter and check lid lock resistance- you want to verify the following resistance values across the indicated J15 connector pinouts:

Component/part	Resistance value	Contacts to be measured
Lock Switch Solenoid	85 – 155ohms	J15-1 to J15-3
Lock Switch	Locked=0 ohms Unlocked= Open Circuit	J15-3 to J15-4
Lid Switch	Lid Closed= 0 ohms Lid Open= Open Circuit	J15-3 to J15-2

If the resistance values are okay, jump to step 7.

And if the switch measurements don’t match the above values for un-locked (or locked) condition, there is likely an issue with the lid lock. Proceed to replace the entire lid lock mechanism.

5. If the above steps have not corrected the lock fault, the main control needs to be replaced. Be sure to calibrate the washer and run automatic test (under diagnostic mode) to verify repair.
