This test checks the valves, temperature thermistor, wiring, and main control as these could all have something to do with some of the errors that are blamed on a defective temperature thermistor on these washers.
How to test Temperature Thermistor on a Maytag bravos washer- steps
- Check if the cold valve is okay by running the Cold Valve test(under Service Test Mode)- you can only do this once you enter Service Diagnostics Mode on your washer.
- If you see cold water being dispensed, jump to step 2.
- On the other hand, if you notice hot water being dispensed, check if the hose connection is proper.
- Check if the hot valve is fine by running Hot Valve test(under Service Test Mode)- again you can only do this once you enter Service Diagnostics Mode on your washer.
- If you see hot water being dispensed, jump to step 3.
- But if you notice cold water being dispensed, double check that the household’s hot water is available/present.
- Unplug the washer (or disconnect power).
- Remove the console to open a way to the main control.
- Remove the connector J2 from main control.
- Now grab an ohmmeter and measure the resistance (of your temperature thermistor part) between pin J2-1 and J2-2.
You want to verify that approximate resistance is within the ambient temperature range(as indicated in the following table).
Now, if the approximate resistance is within this range, jump to step 6.
If, on the other hand, you get infinite resistance (or resistance is close to 0), replace the entire valve assembly.

Most temperature thermistor errors/issues occur due to the resistance being out-of-range.
Keep in mind that if the thermistor malfunctions, these washers default to their pre-programmed wash settings.
