Maytag washing machine cycle times guide [Comprehensive Maytag washer cycle guide]

Let’s get started:

Normal

Cycle Time

About 50 minutes – 1 hour

When to Use

For normally soiled linens, cottons, sheets, and your mixed garment loads.

Water Temperature

Warm

How It Works

In a normal wash, the washer spins at a high spin speed and uses warm water. This combination provides maximum energy efficiency.

Whites

Cycle Time

About 1.5 hours – 2 hours, 50 minutes

When to Use

Use whites for your heavily soiled white garments and fabrics.

For the best results when washing white cotton/synthetics (and other bleach-safe fabrics), be sure to add chlorine bleach.

Water Temperature

Very warm/hot

How It Works

Uses a longer cleaning time (due to extra rinsing) and extra-fast spin speed.

That way, the cycle results in optimal cleaning (and rinsing) especially when bleach is added.

Cold Water Wash

Cycle Time

About 50 minutes – 1.5 hours

When to Use

Use this to wash all bright (or darkly-colored) cotton, linens, casual items, or mixed loads.

Also, use it to wash garments with stains that dissolve best in cold water (blood, toothpaste, and more).

Water Temperature

Cold

How It Works

Uses cold water but with an additional wash action in order to gently lift stains.

Delicate

Cycle Time

About 45 minutes – 1 ¼ hours

When to Use

For lightly soiled lingerie, sweaters, blouses, sheer fabrics, pants or any clothing item whose tag reads “gentle”.

Water Temperature

Cold

How It Works

Gentle wash action is combined with low-speed spin. The goal is to provide gentle cleaning for the purpose of reducing wrinkling.

Rinse & Spin

Cycle Time

About 15 – 20 minutes

When to Use

For clothing items that usually need a rinse (without detergent)- A good example of when you can use it is when you’re washing swimwear.

Water Temperature

Varies

How It Works

This cycle combines a rinse action plus a high-speed spin.

You can just use it on its own or choose to add to loads that needs an extra rinse.

Quick Wash

Cycle Time

Approximately 15 – 40 minutes

When to Use

Use quick wash for small loads (containing about 2 to 4 lightly soiled garments) that you need to clean quickly.

Water Temperature

Warm

How It Works

Combines three key features:  High speed tumbling + A significantly shortened wash time + An extra-high-speed spin (for shorter clothes drying times).

The objective is to clean your lightly soiled clothes super fast.

So in short, if your Maytag washer does have a quick cycle option(can take as little as 15 minutes), it is recommended you only use it to wash between 2 to 4 lightly soiled garments.

Permanent Press

Cycle Time

Approximately 50 minutes to 1 ¼ hours

When to Use

In general, you should use a permanent press cycle to wash fabrics that traditionally wrinkle easily such as dresses and some professional clothing.

In a nutshell, this is the best cycle to use when you’re washing fabrics that are intended to be wrinkle-free.

Quick Tip: To see what fabrics you should wash with permanent press, look for “permanent press” symbol(below) on your cloth item’s care tag.

Water Temperature

Warm

How It Works

The cycle uses warm water together with a slower spin speed to release/clear existing wrinkles.

This combination also helps prevent new wrinkles from setting.

Quick Tip: Some Maytag washing machines have special wrinkle prevention cycles such as wrinkle control cycle. These function pretty much the same way as permanent press.

Heavy Duty

Cycle Time

About 1 – 2 ¼  hours

When to Use

As you may have guessed, this cycle is designed to wash sturdy, extra-soiled loads (garments that need more intense cleaning).

Quick Tip: Press “Extra Power” button as your Heavy Duty cycle runs to boost stain-fighting (if provided on your Maytag washer). Meanwhile, for clothes with extra tough everyday stains, select PowerWash® cycle (it’s there on some Maytag® washers).

Water Temperature

Very warm or hot

How It Works

Combines high spin speeds, extra wash action, and heated water for a deep cleaning performance.

Bedding

Cycle Time

Around 50 minutes – 2 hours

When to Use

This is the wash cycle to use when you’re washing large items (think sheets, sleeping bags, jackets, small comforters, small rugs, etc.)

Water Temperature

Warm

How It Works

Fills washer with just enough water (to get the load adequately wet) then some washer models fill with higher levels of water than other cycles.

Sanitize

Cycle Time

About 1 ½ hours to 1 hour,50 minutes

When to Use

For clothes, bedding, towels….(and anything else) that require sanitization.

Water Temperature

Hot or extra hot

How It Works

Uses hot (or extra-hot water) to kill most of the common bacteria in laundry.

Quick Tip: Some sanitize cycles may need you to use an Oxi product (add it in your washer’s Oxi dispenser).

Deep Water Wash

Cycle Time

About 1 – 1 ¼ hours

When to Use

Use this mostly for heavily-soiled casual as well as mixed loads.

To be clear, your load here could include jeans, towels, and sturdy fabrics.

Please note that this is one of the unique Maytag top loading centennial washer cycles (Actually, it is only provided on Maytag top load washers)

Water Temperature

Warm

How It Works

In this cycle, a more robust wash action combines with additional water to completely break down and finally rinse away day-to-day tough messes.

You can have deeper water levels fill the wash basket (if necessary) by selecting the Deep Fill feature

Maytag washing machine cycle times – Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What is the fastest cycle on Maytag washer?

The fastest cycle on most Maytag washers is Quick Wash. It washes clothes in about 15-40 minutes!

What is Maytag drain and spin cycle

There is a difference between Drain & spin and Rinse & Spin..

Now, the former only drains water (out of your washer) and no more water will be added- water is only removed!

In contrast, water is drained (out of the washer) first during a Rinse & spin cycle.

Then, clean water is added to the drum (plus any fabric softener) and then a rinse cycle is done.

Lastly, your clothes are spinned dry.

What is the power wash cycle on a Maytag washer?

Just like the name suggests, power wash means extra powerful cleaning so use it when you want to wash clothes with super stubborn stains, crusted-on messes, and other tough-to-wash messes.

In short, this is a super powerful cleaning cycle thanks to boosted wash action (The agitator in units with this cycle is nicknamed PowerWash® agitator because of the more concentrated washing on incredibly tough stains) and  heated water.

In fact, there’s an option to add extra water -select Deep Water Wash setting- if you’re looking at rinsing away cleaned off soils.

For most Maytag washers, the shortest is the Quick Wash Cycle (takes about 15-40 minutes to clean clothes) while the longest is the Whites Cycle (it can take up to 2 hours and 50 minutes to get white clothes clean)

PS: Always select the recommended cycle for your load for the best cleaning results.

    • It’s driving me crazy too. We bought this washer for our vacation home. When we are trying to do laundry and get out of the house to catch the ferry, many of my family misjudge how long it takes !!!! Mine at home has a quick cycle which is 20 minutes. I’m really considering replacing this washer

    • I have the same problem, no “quick wash”. Actually to be honest, the setting on mine are quite different compared to ANYWHERE else I’ve seen on the internet…. Just want to know how to use my machine… oh well.
