GE washer error code 3: 

If your GE washer is showing error code 3 along with the following behaviour:

spinning for about a second or two, then sitting for about a minute, and then it is repeating the same pattern three additional times before ending wash cycle prematurely..

then you likely need to swap out your GE Washer Inverter Control Board with a recommended OEM replacement such as this ..it is often the culprit..

But just before then, run the following diagnostic procedures (just to be sure it’s the cause of the GE washer error code 3:

Physically inspect your GE washer for anything

That could be hindering motor movement… You want to be sure that the motor is moving freely and there’s nothing blocking it (you might want to replace the motor- remember it might still be under warranty- in case it is not).

 

Confirm that the hall sensor is properly connected to main harness…

Enter your GE washer’s service mode then start test 14 (Spin). If hall sensor has been damaged or is detached, the basket typically starts to spin in a normal way but then abruptly stop spinning (mostly after around 5 seconds).

 

Also, double check to ensure that hall sensor is connected (and positioned) the right way on your washer’s motor.

 

Note that if basket spins – and for 15 seconds or thereabouts- then that rules out the hall sensor (it is unlikely to be the source of the fault code).

 

By the way you should listen keenly to the motor when running test 14..if you hear like it having a struggle to run, change the inverter board.

 

Measure resistance of motor phase windings

Measure resistance of the motor phase windings(each)….and

If TCO(thermal cutoff device) has tripped, give it approximately 45 minutes(wait) -the TCO resets in that time.

 

Check door lock

Check door lock – again run spin test 14 in service mode. If your washer won’t spin, replace inverter board –
